Gender Equality for SMEs

Today is International Women's Day - so what can small businesses do about gender equality?

IWD celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

Many small businesses feel they have little control over these issues, but here are some actions you can take:

đź’˛ Conduct a payroll review to identify discrepancies in pay between men and women at the same level or comparable value. If a gap is identified, correct it.

đź‘€ Observe and challenge your and your colleagues' assumptions and biases in hiring and promoting.

🤱 Ensure you provide paid parental leave, flexible working options and part-time roles to support parents to continue their careers.

📣 Ensure women have a voice in the business - encourage them to speak up and actively seek their input both on gender issues and broader business decisions.

🚀 Identify female talent and mentor them toward management positions and provide career growth opportunities.

🙋‍♀️ Support women outside the business - make connections for women in your network, join industry gender equality initiatives and speak to young women about opportunities in your sector.
