Sustainability Plan & Roadmap

A right-sized CSR approach for your business

You care about doing the right thing for your customers, your team, and the wider impact of your business, yet you’re not sure what “good” looks like or how to make it practical.

That’s where I come in.

What you need isn’t more ideas – it’s a clear, right-sized strategy that brings together your intentions, your impacts, and your opportunities into a plan you can actually follow.

I'll guide you

Through a done-with-you process that brings structure, focus, and momentum to your sustainability efforts.

We’ll combine your team’s insight with my 20 years of sustainability expertise to create a strategy and roadmap you can actually use.

Who It's For

This service is ideal for small to medium businesses who:

A winding path leads to a fork with two signposts pointing opposite ways; a small tree stands nearby, all set against a light blue background. Small Might CSR

Want to align their sustainability efforts with their values and stakeholder expectations

Are looking to move from ad hoc actions to a clear, intentional approach they can credibly articulate

Need a practical, streamlined approach that works for their size and capacity

Are ready to take committed action to differentiate their business.

How It Works

This process is guided by my HERO Method – a simple, practical approach designed to help small businesses define what matters, plan effective sustainability actions and get their team on board.

We'll walk through 4 key considerations:

1

Step 1: Visioning

Define your sustainability purpose, values, and drivers, and what matters most for your business and stakeholders.

2

Step 2: Impacts & opportunities

Understand your impacts across your operations and value chain, and identify where you can make the most meaningful difference.

3

Step 3: Objectives

Prioritise where to focus, define what you want to achieve, and a short, medium and long-term roadmap to get there.

4

Step 4: Implementation

Assign timelines and responsibilities and set up a simple way to track progress and adjust over time.

Done With You

This is a collaborative process designed to build understanding, alignment and ownership across your team, not hand you a report that will sit on a shelf. We'll do this through:

Meetings with the project lead and key decision makers

to understand the business needs, goals and limitations

Workshops with the wider team

to engage your employees in the topic, raise awareness of the business' goals, and seek input and ideas

Meetings with the people who will implement action

to ensure any recommendations are practical and have buy-in.

How many meetings and workshops are required will be determined based on your size and interest levels of your employees.

You'll walk away with

Tangible deliverables:

  • A tailored sustainability plan aligned to what's most important for your size, sector and goals
  • A practical, time-bound roadmap with clear priorities and actions
  • A strategy-on-a-page for easy internal and external communication

What is a sustainability plan for a small business?

A sustainability plan identifies priority environmental, social and governance focus areas for your business, goals and the actions you plan to take to achieve them. It’s a practical way to turn your intentions into something clear, achievable and credible.

How is this different from a sustainability strategy?

In practice, they’re closely related. A strategy is the high-level approach of what you want to accomplish, why, and broadly how you'll achieve it.

But instead of something theoretical, this service turns that thinking into a right-sized plan of action and roadmap, so you're clear on what steps to take.

What does a sustainability roadmap include?

A roadmap outlines actions against your key priorities and sets out timing across the short, medium and long term. It helps you focus on one step at a time without trying to do everything at once, while seeing how those steps will achieve the goal.

How is this different from the ESG Impact & Systems Review?

This service is about establishing a clear CSR approach and prioritising your efforts within a small business. The ESG Impact & Systems Review is for more advanced businesses that already have an approach in place and want to refine, strengthen or benchmark it to take things further.

Do we need ESG data to get started?

No. This is about setting direction and building a practical plan, which can include how to start collecting data if it's not yet in place. We can also add-on the collection of data to establish your baseline performance if desired.

How long does it take?

Most projects run over a few weeks, depending on your availability and how many people you’d like involved. We’ll tailor the process to suit your team and capacity.

Who should be involved?

How much engagement is needed is dependent on the size of your business, progress on sustainability to date and the level of interest among the broader team. Generally key functions such as facilities, finance, product, procurement and HR should be involved at a minimum, but we'll work with you to identify the right people and design an engagement plan.

Will this be too much for a small team to manage?

No. The goal is a right-sized approach that fits your business and your needs. We take your capacity and opportunities to drive business outcomes into account to prioritise the most impactful actions.

What should a small business focus on in sustainability?

It depends on your business, but for most small businesses sustainability starts with environmental hygiene like energy use, water use and waste and ensuring the wellbeing of your employees and community. Then we'll look at what you can influence in your product and supply chain, moving from 'do less harm' to 'do more good' where possible.
